Studying at Tallygarunga
Tallygarunga Academy of Magic is the only public wizarding school in Australia. It is managed by the Victorian Ministry of Magic's Wizarding Education department. Students who are not homeschooled or cannot afford the tuition fees of the more prestigious private establishments are sent to Tallygarunga at age 11.School terms & holidays
Tallygarunga follows the Australian muggle school calendar. School begins in late January and winds up in mid-December for the summer holidays. Dates for the 2018 school year are:Starting at Tallygarunga
Unlike Hogwarts, students at Tallygarunga may be accepted before their eleventh birthday. However, the school will not take a child less than ten years of age into First Year.Senior years
Students in sixth and seventh years sit exams in the middle and end of the year. Mid-year exams are usually lighter, while end of year exams help to determine what opportunities the student will have for further study.Class loads
Students at Tallygarunga are encouraged to involve themselves in all areas of study. All students, including first years, have the option of selecting electives to complement their core classes. Most students will take on a study load of nine total classes, however those who are more enthusiastic may apply for flexible timetabling allowing them to enroll in up to twelve.
Tallygarunga offers a wide range of classes in the form of both core and electives. Currently, the following classes are available for study:Leadership & clubs
In addition to regular classes, Tallygarunga offers students the chance to develop their interests and skills via clubs and leadership opportunities. All clubs will have a teacher assigned to supervise, and student leaders will have additional responsibilities in the school.
